Hello everyone,

there is this awesome game jam every now and then and this time I thought I have time, now I have to participate.
People with their talents come together and create small games which they present afterwards.

Our team decided to use Construct 2 because we were a small team and we chose a difficult topic.
Dark science and making the character interesting instead of the game.

So here are some screen shots:

There is a lot of bad stuff going on the world. A lot of poverty. Even in Germany where I live. But some people like to help them and the radio channel of Gitta Peyn is one opportunity to get some help, especially about the social system in Germany. I´m happy to help as well with my skills, making a design and giving the help some kind of a face so that people remember that they can get help here. Gitta Peyn really likes the design. The design, which is vintage because the radio is vintage, reminds her of music from the 60s.

I saw a play a couple of weeks ago and it fascinated me very much. It´s about Oedipus the drama of Sophocles and ancient Greek writer. Creon  a character who became the King of Thebes and he would never betray his own words and rules He was played by a woman. And it was so ridiculous because in that time men never took the word of a woman serious. Women were not allowed to have an own opinion and to raise their word against a man or even the king. And there was a woman playing that king which was really great and funny as well.
I recommend it to everybody.

For the exercise I did a character. This is it.
This female animal character has many skills that need to be shown. How it runs, how it slides, how it swims, how it fights, how it is smart and how it is a female animal. Besides it needs to be agil and fast.
This character is made for an adventure jump and run.

It has no name yet, but feel free to suggest some in the comments. Have fun! :)

Sketches

Sketches show you what the character is cabable of. For me it was really nice to see if ideas work or not.

Color studies are important.

A main character needs to be recognized by shape and color when it´s comes to simplify the character. Always think about that. Also you want the character come out of the background. It should fit into the environtment.

There she is. Give her a name! ;)

Test the moment

The last three month I was very busy with a really nice project. And I noticed, it´s very important to “play” the moment when you have your presentation. It makes you feel save.

Almost the same thing happens to games. It´s very important to test them with people from the target group. A few month ago I tested a game with my family. There are different types of people.  I know that this game was never tested before. So the results weren´t so good. Actually they were very devastating. Ha ha. But in the end I know what to do, if you were responsible for this game.

The project I organized was my own test. I tested for myself if I could handle hard business, evening school and an event. If I think about it, I guess we, the team of the event, did an awesome job. But the only thing that made it awesome was testing the situation.
Most of the people didn´t get or didn´t take the opportunity to test their presentations before. Hey, it´s an evening school we attend after hard work. Hehe.
But some people took it and this testing situation made them clear, they need to change some things here and there.

The great general rehearsal was a few days ago. Here the results were very devastating as well. Since then many speakers knew they have to short their presentations and have to exercise to speak.
In some cases I didn´t believe that it was possible to do that. But having a rehearsal was so real for them, that it was clear – they have to do something to make it better. And it surprised me very much.
Also it was a testing moment for me. Because I needed to organize somebody to watch the clock and tell the speaker to come to the end, or say “Please, hold the microphone to your mouth”.
Before the big event I didn´t think that we only needed to watch the clock only one time. And even this speaker was very professional to end the presentation. The speaker still had a lot of pages and topics to talk about. But saying that people know the most important stuff, this is enough, is a very good solution.

Having the experience is so important and to get them even more.

So my conclusion is, be prepared and test the moment.
